Easy Homemade Hummus

This easy homemade hummus is so quick and simple to make. The creamy, light and fluffy dip is the perfect companion to some fresh pita bread and fresh veggies.

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup tahini
  • 2 Tbsp olive oil
  • 1/2 tsp cumin
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice
  • 2 Tbsp cold water
  • 1 15 oz can chickpeas, drained and rinsed
  • paprika, fresh parsley, olive oil, for serving

Instructions

  1. In a blender or food processor, blend the tahini, olive oil, cumin, salt, garlic, and lemon juice until well blended.
  2. Add the chickpeas and blend until smooth, about 2-3 minutes. Slowly add in the cold water until the hummus reaches the desired consistency.
  3. Taste and add more salt or lemon juice if desired. Serve with a drizzle of olive oil, dash of paprika and some fresh parsley.

Notes

Adapted from Gimme Some Oven

  • You can easily make your own tahini. Simply add 1 cup of sesame seeds to a frying pan over medium heat. Stir the seeds constantly until they reach a very light golden color, about 3-5 minutes. Allow seeds to cool completely and then transfer to a blender/food processor. Blend for 1 minute, then add 2-4 tablespoons of olive oil. Continue blending until smooth.
