Two glasses with strawberry agua fresca. this recipe
One of my favorite things to do with berries after they've reached their prime is to blend them up into smoothies or smoothie bowls, make them into jam, freeze them for later, or make agua fresca! After purchasing 4 pounds worth of strawberries at Costco the other day, I knew I needed to use them up fast. Obviously, on a hot summer day like today, agua fresca was definitely in order.

Agua fresca is Spanish for "fresh water" or "cool water". Made with water and fruit, it is much lighter than juice as it consists mainly of water.

This refreshing version of strawberry agua fresca is made with strawberries, fresh lime juice, and my favorite ingredient: mint. The mint adds a very subtle refreshing flavor that works so well with the fruity combination!

Ingredients laid out for strawberry agua fresca.

    Ingredients in Strawberry Agua Fresca

    • Water
    • Strawberries: Use fresh, not frozen strawberries or you'll end up with a smoothie-like consistency drink!
    • Lime juice
    • Sugar: Honey or another sweetener of your choice can also be substituted for the sugar.
    • Mint: Mint adds the best refreshing flavor to this drink, but you can opt to leave it out if you prefer.

How to Make the Agua Fresca

Process photos of strawberry agua fresca in blender.

    1. Blend all of the ingredients in a blender.
    2. Use a fine-mesh strainer to strain out the pulp. Discard.
    3. Add additional water, and serve over ice.
