🔪 Instructions
This recipe includes instructions for two different batches of popcorn: grape and cinnamon. I'll walk you through the steps for making the grape one, as the cinnamon instructions are nearly identical except for the flavor.
- Preheat oven to 200 F (100 C.)
- Place your popped popcorn in a lightly buttered large roasting pan, ensuring there are no unpopped kernels.
3. Add butter, corn syrup, sugar, and salt to a large saucepan. Turn the heat to medium and bring to a low simmer. Continue simmering for 5 minutes.
4. Remove from heat and stir in baking soda (baking soda will foam up a bit) and Kool-Aid.
5. Bake for 1 hour, stirring the popcorn mixture every 15 minutes.
6. After the popcorn is finished baking, spread it onto the baking sheet in a single layer.
8. Add cooled cinnamon and grape popcorn to a serving dish. Enjoy!
7. Once the popcorn is cool, break it apart into smaller pieces.
🍿 Tools to Make Popcorn
🍴Storage Information
Store leftover popcorn in an airtight container in a cool, dry place (like your pantry. Popcorn will stay fresh for about 2 weeks.
🌟 Recipe Tips
- I like using disposable roasting pans. I rarely have a need for roasting pans, so it didn't make sense for me to purchase nice ones. And the disposable ones make for super easy clean up!
- For best results, use an air popper to avoid excess oil in your popcorn. Aim for fluffy, fully popped kernels with minimal unpopped kernels, which could break a tooth when you're eating a handful of candied popcorn!
- To avoid popcorn kernels clumping together, spread the coated popcorn out on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper in a single layer. This allows for even drying and prevents sticky clumps that can be hard to eat.
💭 FAQs
I used butterfly popcorn when I made this recipe, but mushroom popcorn is larger and crunchier and would be perfect for making the Outpost Mix!
