🥒 What is Tzatziki Sauce?

Tzatziki is a traditional Greek dip made with a base of creamy yogurt, mixed with grated cucumber, garlic, lemon juice, olive oil, and fresh herbs such as dill or mint. It can be served as a dip with Homemade Pita Bread or crackers, used as a sauce for grilled meats, or spread on sandwiches and Greek Chicken Gyros!

❤️ Why You'll Love This Recipe

  • Make-Ahead Friendly – It actually tastes better after the flavors have time to meld in the fridge.
  • Full of Good-For-You Ingredients – Packed with protein from Greek yogurt and made with fresh, wholesome ingredients. You can feel good about eating this!
  • Versatile – Use tzatziki as a dip, spread, or sauce for everything from grilled meats to sandwiches.

🛒 Ingredients

Labeled ingredients for tzatziki sauce on a marble surface.
  • English cucumber: Other cucumbers can be used, but English cucumbers are best for tzatziki because they have less seeds and are sweeter.
  • Greek yogurt: I recommend using full-fat Greek yogurt for a more rich and flavorful sauce.
  • Lemon juice: Freshly squeezed is best!
  • Dill: Fresh dill will give you the best classic, herby tzatziki flavor. But you can also use 1 teaspoon of dried dill, too.

🌟 Expert Tips

  • Make sure to press or squeeze as much moisture out of the grated cucumber as possible. This will guarantee you don't have watery tzatziki sauce.
  • For the best flavor, allow the tzatziki to rest in the refrigerator for at least an hour or overnight.

Tzatziki and hummus are actually both healthy dips that offer different nutritional benefits. Tzatziki is lower in calories and fat and it is also high in protein and calcium, but hummus is a good source of fiber and healthy fats. Both dips are a great addition to a balanced diet!
