A jar of pumpkin pie spice.

The obsession with pumpkin spice is real. Pumpkin spice is no longer just an ingredient you find in pumpkin pie. It's in cereal, yogurt, ice cream, you name it! Whether or not you enjoy the pumpkin spice craze, this blend still makes a great staple to have on hand for fall baking.

🥘  Ingredients

A plate of spices laid out.

Most store-bought versions of pumpkin pie spice contain cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, cloves, and allspice. Black pepper and cardamom are untraditional but add a new layer of flavor to the blend.

  • Cinnamon
  • Ground ginger
  • Nutmeg
  • Cloves
  • Allspice
  • Black pepper
  • Cardamom

🔪 Instructions

A bowl of pumpkin pie spice.
  1. Whisk all of the spices in a small bowl.
A funnel on a spice jar.

2. Use a funnel to pour into a jar.

🥣 Storage

Store the spice blend in an airtight container for 1-2 years. I like to use either a Mason jar or these glass spice jars to store the blend in.

🌟 Top tip

Make sure your spices are fresh. Spices lose their taste, potency, and color over time, which won't help to add any flavor to your recipes.

💭 FAQs

Can I change the quantities of the spices used?

Sure! This recipe is flexible in the sense that the quantities of the spices can be adjusted to your liking. If you prefer more cinnamon, add more! Don't want to add black pepper? Leave it out. That's the beauty of making your own spice blend.
