❤️ Why You'll Love This Recipe
- Much Faster - With this recipe, you don't have to wait for hours for dulce de leche to slowly caramelize on the stovetop. The Instant Pot gives you that same rich, golden spread in a fraction of the time.
- Practically Hands-Off - Once you set the Instant Pot, you can walk away and let it do all the work for you. No stirring, no worrying about burning, and no hovering over the stove. This is foolproof and stress-free!
- Always Delicious - The caramel turns out creamy and smooth every single time. Whether you're spreading it on toast, stuffing cookies like my Dulce de Leche Snickerdoodles, or drizzling it on my Dulce de Leche Banana Bread, the Instant Pot version tastes just as indulgent as the traditional one.
🛒 Ingredients

- Can of sweetened condensed milk: Yes, it's really that simple! Just make sure you don't accidentally use a can of evaporated milk instead. The added sugar in the sweetened condensed milk is what caramelizes and becomes dulce de leche.
🔪 Instructions

Step 1: Remove the label from the can of sweetened condensed milk.

Step 2: Place the can into the Instant Pot and fill it with water until the can is completely submerged (the Instant Pot should be filled to capacity.)

Step 3: Set to high pressure for 35 minutes.

Step 4: Once the can has completely cooled off, open it and enjoy!
🌟 Expert Tips
- Remove the label. Use Goo Gone to remove the label and glue from the can. You want to remove as much of it as possible so the residue doesn't stick to the Instant Pot liner.
- Adjust cook time for desired thickness. For a lighter, pourable consistency, reduce the cook time by 5-10 minutes. For a thicker, spreadable texture, add 5-10 minutes.
- Let it cool. Once the can has finished cooking, allow it to cool completely before opening. If you open it while it's still warm/hot, you risk the chance of having pressurized hot caramel spray all over you.
💭 FAQs
Caramel is made with sugar and water, whereas dulce de leche is made with milk and sugar (or sweetened condensed milk.) While they are both different in the way they are made, the two have similar tastes, colors, and textures so they can often be interchanged for each other.

Instant Pot Dulce de Leche
Equipment
Ingredients
- 14 ounce can of sweetened condensed milk
Instructions
- 1. Use Goo Gone to completely remove the label from the can. You don't want any residue left behind as it will stick to the Instant Pot liner and make it hard to clean.
- 2. Place the sealed can on its side in the Instant Pot. Fill the Instant Pot liner up with water completely to capacity. The can should be submerged with a few extra inches of water on top.
- 3. Set the pressure to high for 35 minutes.
- 4. After the 35 minutes, allow the pressure to release naturally.
- 5. Allow the can to completely cool down before removing from the water and opening, this may take a few hours.
- 6. Store the unopened can of dulce de leche at room temperature for up to three weeks. Once opened, dulce de leche should be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
Notes
- Only cook one can of dulce de leche at a time.
- Make sure the can is completely submerged with water so that it does not overheat or explode.
- The can must be cooled completely before opening, or you risk the chance of hot dulce de leche splattering on you.
